There are two positions for South Whitehall Commissioner on the May 20 Primary Ballot. Sharon Fehlinger-Ricker and Glenn Guanowsky have both stepped up to make sure there are registered Democrats representing voters on South Whitehall Township’s Board of Commissioners.
Sharon Fehlinger-Ricker grew up in the Parkland School District. Her career in education started in Delaware County, PA, where she taught at the high school and elementary school levels. She moved back to South Whitehall Township and served as a school principal in public, private and charter school settings. She has served as an adjunct at the college level teaching experienced teachers to be school leaders/principals.
Sharon believes in accountability and transparency in local government, and she is committed to providing resources that are cost effective and in the best interest of residents.
As an educational leader, she relied on data-driven decision making and will bring that skill set to her leadership in the township. Her decisions will be based on data and facts for both short-term and long-term planning as well as fiscal management. In addition, she will make finding sustainable solutions a priority. • Protection of the environment • Preservation of community resources • Creation of balance between responsible growth and preserving our historical spaces and open plots of land.
“I believe local government should be responsive to the needs of ALL residents. I will make fiscal responsibility and responsible budget management a part of all decisions to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.”
Glenn Guanowsky recently retired as Deputy General Counsel overseeing Legal Services and Risk Management for LVHN. He has been a resident of SWT for 24 years; raising his family in what he feels is the best place to live in the Lehigh Valley. I am a huge Covered Bridge Park fan. Glen is a lifelong Democrat who is ready to serve his community in these turbulent times in order to move forward in a positive way.
Glen stands for:
1) Taking a reasoned look at commercial development by: • Assessing current development and vacant/unused commercial space to determine underutilized current capacity to prioritize full utilization of already developed land. • Monitoring present and approved development to determine continuing impact on traffic and quality of life. • Utilizing this information, moving forward on future development projects.
2) Taking a thoughtful approach to taxes by focusing tax dollar spending on essential government services.
3) Improving the quality of life for residents today and tomorrow • Supporting our parks and recreational areas. • Assessing the feelings of township residents towards open space with information such as the results of the Muhlenberg College Open Space Survey.
“I am running for this office because I have the skills and time to assess South Whitehall development risks and rewards, as well as our taxes and services in a reasoned and thoughtful manner.”
